Winter 2016: Hilan Warshaw teaches a course on Shakespeare and Cinema at Barnard College, Columbia University

Hilan Warshaw is a New York-based filmmaker, writer, and educator. Through his production company, Overtone Films LLC, he produces and directs independent projects as well as videos for organizations including Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, the League of American Orchestras, and the Drama League.

He produced, directed, and wrote the 2013 documentary Wagner's Jews, internationally broadcast on PBS/Channel Thirteen, Arte, WDR, Deutsche Welle, Israel's Channel 8 and Medici TV, and soon to be broadcast on Sweden's SVT. He is currently producing and directing a docudrama, The Secret Song, featuring Renée Fleming and the Emerson String Quartet.

He has taught film courses at Barnard College and Western Carolina University, and has been a lecturer and panelist at numerous venues including Yale University, NYU, Boston University, the Barbican Centre (London), Goethe-Institut, and many others. His writings on film and music have been published by Cambridge University Press, McFarland Press, Königshausen & Neumann, The Wagner Journal, and in Carnegie Hall Playbills.
